Lines Of Excellence Consulting LLC » twitter http://linesofexcellence.com bringing people together to make things happen Mon, 30 Apr 2012 20:06:01 +0000 en hourly 1 http://wordpress.org/?v= No, you can’t… go it alone http://linesofexcellence.com/2011/newsletterarchives/no-you-cant-go-it-alone/ http://linesofexcellence.com/2011/newsletterarchives/no-you-cant-go-it-alone/#comments Thu, 24 Mar 2011 01:13:10 +0000 Erica Rivera http://linesofexcellence.com/?p=333 No, you can not – succeed… alone.   There’s just no way, to go it alone.  I tell this to folks all the time.  I remind myself, all the time.  Everyone contributes skills & competencies to creative projects, and all involved should challenge each other, & be the push for growth.  All the while, enabling opportunity, which might otherwise not be there.  Case in point: twitter.  Most of you know I’m a big fan of twitter (particularly using the amazing interface on the ipad), and I explain why, over and over again.  But you don’t have to listen to me (!).  You can see a great interview Charlie Rose did with Jack Dorsey, one of the twitter founders (link below).  Jack is surely a leader in the technology & communication industry, not to mention creativity & innovation as well!  His goal is to simplify life, ours.  However, he says “it’s really complex to make something simple,” while having the awareness that his “biggest strength is simplification.” That said, Jack also “love(s) building teams… and seeing the intersection of technology and the team.”

For now though, here’s my advice… & I’m just going to give it to you straight —

Building successful teams by maximizing your unique strengths is the key to increased profits & successful leadership.

  • Capitalize on who you are as a LEADER & know how to build your own skills to create a successful team.
  • Each LEADER has unique and different personal traits that define them as a leader, but leaders do not lead alone.
  • The key to successful leadership is knowing what you have, what you’re missing, and where to fill in the gaps.
  • Outline your skills & set goals to achieve success, by developing the right team of experts.

We’ve all had the experience of extending huge amounts of effort and energy to reach a particular goal only to lack realization of that goal. That is the moment to gain the awareness that you needed a better teamwork plan behind the goal.  You won’t be able to figure out how to find what you’re missing until you know what you’ve got, thus -  identify your strengths and figure out where you need to fill in expertise and other skill sets.
